Read the Bible Every Day
As the new year begins, I want to encourage you to read the Bible everyday. Those who read and obey God's word are like a tree planted by flowing streams of water, they will have deep spiritauls roots, strong branches, and abundant fruit that glorifies God (Psalm 1:1-3). If you keep reading, you will find 12 reasons to read your Bible everyday. These reasons will be especially helpful on the days when reading is tough. May God bless you in the reading of His word.
1. The Bible is God's words to us.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
“But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is [a matter] of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” (2 Peter 1:20-21)
2. The whole Bible points to Jesus.
"You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me" (John 5:39)
3. The Bible is pure truth.
“Your word is very pure, Therefore Your servant loves it.” (Psalm 119:140)
"The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether. They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward. (Psalm 19:7-11 NASB95)
4. The Bible frees you from Satan.
“So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, [then] you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." They answered Him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, 'You will become free'?" Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. "The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. "So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. "I know that you are Abraham's descendants; yet you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. "I speak the things which I have seen with [My] Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from [your] father." They answered and said to Him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you are Abraham's children, do the deeds of Abraham. "But as it is, you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. "You are doing the deeds of your father." They said to Him, "We were not born of fornication; we have one Father: God." Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me. "Why do you not understand what I am saying? [It is] because you cannot hear My word. "You are of [your] father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own [nature,] for he is a liar and the father of lies. "But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me." (John 8:31-45) (emphasis added)
5. The Bible leads us away from destruction.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Palm 119:105)
“How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word” (Psalm 119:9)
“Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You” (Ps. 119:11)
6. The Bible produces delight.
“The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart” (Ps. 19:8)
“Your testimonies also are my delight, they are my counselors” (Ps. 119:24)
7. The Bible helps us grow in holiness.
“Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth” (John 17:17)
8. The Bibe fuels effective prayers.
"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." (John 15:7)
9. The Bible keeps us in the love of Christ.
"If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love." (John 15:10)
10. The Bible is our most precious commodity.
“They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.” (Psalm 19:10)
"But He answered and said, "It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'" (Matthew 4:4)
11. The Bible brings salvation.
"Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you." (1 Timothy 4:16)
12. God approves those who study the Bible accurately.
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)
